beyond the restrictions of money.

Many of these programs can be used on phones, tablets and computers.

 

USE YOUR COMPUTER, TABLET OR PHONE

We have listed programs below for the computer, tablet and phone (iOS or Android).

Most of the apps and programs we have mentioned can be used on an tablet or phone.

Much of what you can do on a computer, you can also do on your phone or tablet.
 

It is possible to attach a mouse and keyboard to your Android phone.

And a keyboard to your iPhone or iPad.  (Cannot use mouse.)


FREE WRITING PROGRAMS

Google Docs

What is Google Docs? Google Docs is a free editing and styling program for documents.

The user can choose from hundreds of fonts, add links, images and drawings for free.

The program also comes with templates and the ability to access your documents anywhere.

The docs work with Microsoft Word. You can download text without formatting.

You can also insert HTML into the document.

A key feature is its voice to text feature.

WRITING PROGRAMS

Microsoft Office 365

Dictation in Microsoft Office

Microsoft Word is the default word document used by most.

It comes with the Microsoft Office suite, which also includes Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook.

This can be used on PC, Mac, tablets and phones.

It's not clear to us that most people would need it.

We will note that you can dictate text in Microsoft Office.


VOICE TO TEXT TRANSCRIPTION PROGRAMS

How to Transcribe an Audio File in Microsoft Word

Microsoft provides an audio transcription service for Microsoft 365 premium subscribers.

We will note that you can dictate text in Microsoft Office.

You can only import audio files in the online version of Microsoft Word.

 

Otter.ai | Voice Meeting Notes & Real-time Transcription

You can dictate for free but if you want to convert an audio file you have to pay.

 

Voice to Text in Google Docs

One creative and easy way to capture your ideas is by using voice to text.

Via voice to text you can simply speak your ideas aloud, and have them recorded in the written word.

 

Dragon Anywhere

Dragon Anywhere is a paid program you can get on your Android or iOS mobile device.

It helps for ease of transcribing your spoken thoughts anywhere, anytime.

Scrivener

What about if you want to work on a novel?

Scrivener is a paid program available either on your PC, or via app on an Android or iOS device.

There is also a free trial available.

It's a useful program for writers trying to organize their thoughts for planning out larger works.

It also works well for ease of transitioning your work to ebook format for sale on Amazon.


TOOLS FOR IMPROVING STYLE

Once you've planned out what you want to write, the following tools can help you improve your style.

 

Rhyming Dictionary

For those who are writing poetry or lyrics for a song, a rhyming dictionary is a useful tool.

 

Thesaurus

It's best not to repeat the same words over and over again. Improve your language with a thesaurus.


TOOLS FOR EDITING

When you have the first draft of your idea down in some written form, there are some useful tools for editing out there on the web.

Many of the programs we have mentioned above come built in with grammar checking programs.

Natural Reader

Listen to your work read aloud for free.

Not only is it useful to record your speech to text.

But hearing your work read aloud is useful for checking for errors and if your work has a natural flow to it.
